The IRIS management team visits research groups at Campus Nord

The tour began at midday in the Omega building with GRINS, led by Manel Frigola. It continued in building C4 with the IEB group of Pere Riu, moved on to building D5 to meet the GPI group led by Verònica Vilaplana and Ferran Marqués, and ended in building C5 with GRBIO, led by Lupe Gómez. At each stop, the researchers welcomed the team and explained the work and projects that best define their groups.

Time was tight, but for the management team the essential thing was to be there, to put faces to names and to understand how each group works in its own environment. The visits were a reminder of the variety of knowledge that IRIS brings together, from robotics and biomedical engineering to image processing and biostatistics, all with a shared focus on health.

The day closed with an informal lunch where members of the four groups and the management team had the chance to talk in a relaxed setting, followed by a coffee with the principal investigators. It was a good opportunity to strengthen ties and to start new conversations between disciplines that often work only a few buildings apart.

This was the first time the management team visited these four groups in their own spaces, as part of the IRIS commitment to staying close to its research groups and to fostering the collaboration that gives the institute its purpose.
